Jeff Klinker demo!

The garage sale is successfully behind us and we're looking forward to our program with Jeff Klinker tonight! You can read about him here!
I'm really excited about our Tuesday program this month. I'm sure this is a familiar name to most of you, Jeff Klinker. He will be demonstrating a "plein aire" painting session for us outside of TAF (weather permitting).
Here is a little bit about Jeff:
He was raised in a large family on a farm. He studied life drawing and design for a short time at Purdue. With the exception of a few workshops from prominent painters such as John Michael Carter, CW Mundy and Dan Woodson, he considers himself being self-taught. He has been painting for 40 years, however, it was not until the year 2000 that he discovered the art of plein aire at the annual TC Steele Great Outdoor Art Contest. With a love for nature, plein aire was the perfect combination. Now with an impressionistic style and a member of the IPAPA organization, He paints at some of the most scenic areas in the state.
Here is a note from Verna about our yard sale on Saturday.
Thanks to everyone that helped make it a success.
The garage/yard sale May 16 at Lanni's brought in $385.00
Huge thanks to Lanni for letting many sale items take over her home for several months and organizing publicity and just about everything else.
Also thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who helped set up on Thursday and who helped customers on Saturday and 'took down' the leftovers after. Also to those who trucked furniture, brought folding tables, and whoever I have forgotten to mention.
GREAT JOB, EVERYONE !!

Porcelain Painting - April 2015 Program

Hello everyone!

Our guest artist for April is Jerie Artz.  Many of you may not know Jerie is an awesome porcelain painter.

Porcelain painting was her first love and foundation for watercolor painting. She began porcelain painting in the 70’s at Jenks Rest in Lafayette, Indiana and continued learning from Ann Cochenower also of Lafayette, Indiana, Joan Cress of Okemos, Michigan, Carlos Spina, Brazil, and MarJean Bastian, California .  Her porcelain work was featured in the 2010 spring issue of“Porcelain Artist”, an international magazine for porcelain painters.

Jerie will demonstrate painting roses on white glazed porcelain and explain the process involved from grinding the paints to the necessary multiple kiln firings to produce a finished piece.  She will also bring vases, plates, and other hand-painted items.

Here is the page on her web site about porcelain painting:http://jerieartz.com/pages/porcelain/porcelain_2.htm

ALSO during our April program......
A
rtists are prone to collect art books, brushes, paints, supplies, and art gadgets.  Does your studio space need to be cleaned out? Bring your unwanted surplus to the April WVAS meeting for a silent auction. You may have items that will be recycled as someone else's treasure! If you can, come a bit early, pick up a silent auction bid sheet at the door for each item (or group of items), write name of item, suggested value and place them on the tables.  During the evening you will have opportunity to bid on items until 8:15 when the sheets will be collected and tallied.  Our treasurer, Verna Ritz, will collect the money. Any items not sold, will go to the May garage sale.

I'm looking forward to watching Jerie's magical porcelain painting, and I hope you will come join me!

Pastels workshop

In honor of our broader organizational title, I thought I'd post this info on a pastels workshop I'll be attending October 26-28 in Ann Arbor. This will be the third time I've taken a workshop with Marla Baggetta. The Oct. one will focus on color.

Here's Marla's blog: http://marlabaggettastudio.blogspot.com/
and website: http://www.marlabaggetta.com/

It's great that we have such an accomplished pastels instructor here, with Ron Burgess at the Art Museum, but sometimes it's good to step out of the local comfort zone.

If interested in Marla's Ann Arbor workshop, contact Debra at idzamperla@gmail.com

The following is a flier for a workshop in Oregon but will give you an idea of what she'll cover in Ann Arbor.
