Van Gogh, Turner, and Animation

Two items of interest:

There's a new Turner exhibit in Britain. Follow this link to a blog post about it: http://linesandcolors.com/2013/12/30/turner-the-sea/
In that post, there's a link to the museum. Once there, click on the arrow to see some animations of Turner's works (or buy your tickets if you will be in UK for the show!). Also, go down and click on the link for the book, which takes you to amazon and some images from the book, some of which are watercolors.

This link takes you to a short (3 min.) animated film of some of Van Gogh's paintings. Interesting possibilities! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPQSN3fNLF4&feature=player_embedded

November Program - Christmas Cards

Those that came to the Christmas Card paint out at the meeting had a fun time.  Here are a few photos.  LaDonna showed us how to paint something abstract with shaving cream - pretty fun idea.

November Monthly Meeting

Here is a message from our president reminding us about our November meeting tonight!
I want to remind everyone about this evening's meeting that we are going to be creating greeting cards, not necessarily Christmas cards.  Jerie and I will be hosting this fun time, but we are all going to inspire one another.  I will supply the cards and envelopes, but you will need to bring your painting materials and anything else you like to use to make your cards unique.  Along with my watercolors I sometimes use string, stamps, gold leaf, stencils, shave cream, pen and ink. . .

Also, as usual we'll make time to share your new work or work you would like to have critiqued.

Same place, same time ~ TAF at 7:00pm.

See you tonight,
LaDonna

Building Blocks of Watercolor

Tony Van Hasselt has a great tool for reminding ourselves of the important principles of painting in any medium.  The "Building Blocks of Painting" he has developed is very helpful in planning, executing and evaluating our work.  Check out his web site for details:  http://www.tonyvanhasselt.com/paintingtips.html

T. C. Steele

A recent linesandcolors blog post focused on T. C. Steele. In several of the included images, you can see Steele's handling of a focus area: he highlights the focus area with more detail (and often, light) then lets the rest of the composition blur out.

Busy Day for WVWS!

The third Tuesday is the regular day for the WVWS monthly meeting.  Receiving paintings for the annual juried show today, made it a very full Tuesday.  The judge will have a challenge when he juries the 40 entries tomorrow.  The show opens to the public at 6:00 this Friday, at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation.  It is also the Art Walk, so art lovers will have plenty of art to enjoy.

Becky Brody gave a stimulating hands on demo with YUPO.  Everyone enjoyed trying their hand at this serendipity art experience.

Annual Juried Exhibition

Local artists are dropping off paintings for the juried show at TAF that opens this Friday at 6:00, same time as the gallery art walk. So far there are 37 paintings from 19 artists and more are coming it.  It's going to be a great show!  Here is a fun painting by Jerri Heath, "Not Your Average Goldfish!" More photos to come.

Google Art Project

The Google Art Project provides files of artworks that allow the user to get up close and see details. For example, this link leads to a John Singer Sargent watercolor:
http://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/asset-viewer/rio-dei-mendicanti-venice/jQE_xiWg2QdRIA?projectId=art-project

There is a small box on the right in which you can zoom in/out (- and +). You can also click and hold in that mini-image to move around the painting. Thus, you can really zoom in and see his painterly brushstrokes.

You can look up other artists, too, of course.
