Gouache Virtuosi

I wonder if gouache has a reputation for being even harder to work with than watercolor. At any rate, here's a link to James Gurney's blog--worth exploring in its own right. The link goes directly to his post on masters of gouache:

Verna's Art Travels

This post is from Verna R., who's been traveling and seeing some awesome art:

Joan and I visited the Wisconsin Artists Showcase (Jura Silverman Gallery) in Spring Green, Wis.  Lots of great stuff there, but Dave Bielot was my favorite.   He has a Facebook page, but not an actual web site, apparently.

I pulled a few paintings below and you can see a couple more in these web sites. He is a high school art teacher and watercolorist.

You know how when you're researching something, you always find other things :

This website has wonderful pastels by Susan Klabak:

And this one has watercolors by Vicky Lillaart:

Cezanne's Watercolors

Taking a break a couple of days ago, I googled "still life + watercolor." One of the results was the text Cezanne in the Studio on the Getty's website. You can dowload the entire text or read it online. Later in his life, Cezanne painted some wonderful watercolors, including Still Life with Blue Pot.

Jeff Klinker demo!

The garage sale is successfully behind us and we're looking forward to our program with Jeff Klinker tonight! You can read about him here!
I'm really excited about our Tuesday program this month. I'm sure this is a familiar name to most of you, Jeff Klinker. He will be demonstrating a "plein aire" painting session for us outside of TAF (weather permitting).
Here is a little bit about Jeff:
He was raised in a large family on a farm. He studied life drawing and design for a short time at Purdue. With the exception of a few workshops from prominent painters such as John Michael Carter, CW Mundy and Dan Woodson, he considers himself being self-taught. He has been painting for 40 years, however, it was not until the year 2000 that he discovered the art of plein aire at the annual TC Steele Great Outdoor Art Contest. With a love for nature, plein aire was the perfect combination. Now with an impressionistic style and a member of the IPAPA organization, He paints at some of the most scenic areas in the state.
Here is a note from Verna about our yard sale on Saturday.
Thanks to everyone that helped make it a success.
The garage/yard sale May 16 at Lanni's brought in $385.00
Huge thanks to Lanni for letting many sale items take over her home for several months and organizing publicity and just about everything else.
Also thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who helped set up on Thursday and who helped customers on Saturday and 'took down' the leftovers after. Also to those who trucked furniture, brought folding tables, and whoever I have forgotten to mention.
GREAT JOB, EVERYONE !!
