Kathryn Clark presented a wonderful program at the February meeting last night on how to create your own handmade journal. She had many examples of different types of handmade journals and gave a quick introduction to book binding followed by a hands on demo. Several of the members got to try their hand at folding "folios" and using the awl to create the holes for stitching the sections together. A one day workshop that will begin at Twin Rocker and end in Kathryn's studio, is in the planning for either March or April - TBA SOON!

Garage Sale Fundraiser
WVWS Fundraiser Reminder
In case you haven't heard we are having a garage/yard sale to raise money for our bank account. Lanni has offered us her yard for this fun and profitable day. So.....
Please save your castaways in this year's spring cleaning for our garage sale May 3.
Please bring anything you don't want anymore, ask friends if they have any donations you can bring for the cause also.
If you have any tables or other surfaces we can borrow to put goods on please bring them. We have a few tables I can get outside from here, but will need help with set up and I hope we need more surfaces for more goods.
If you have a friend who wants to get rid of a piece of furniture, we could give them the price we get for it, as I know furniture gets people out of their cars and to see everything else and buy. We would mark non-member items to know to earmark for them.
This should be a fun fundraiser, team builder, maybe even an annual tradition if it's a hit, who know?
So -SAVE the castaways
Bring tables to loan if you can and goods to 20 Beck Ct (off Beck Lane, 2 blocks east of 18th) between Sat April 26 and Fri May 2.

“How to Make Your Own Sketchbook”
Our guest
artist this month will be Kathryn Clark.
Kathryn is best known as the founder (along with her husband, Howie) of
Twinrocker Paper in Brookston and is a wonderful artist, both in watercolor and
oil. She will demonstrate how to make a
sketchbook using your favorite paper (such as Twinrocker). These sketchbooks lie flat and are hand
stitched. Kathryn will also bring books,
awls, needles, thread and paper you may purchase if you are interested.
Kathryn
suggests that if you are thinking about making a book you might consider making
a book for a trip. You will not want to
make too large a book.
You should
bring a camera, IPad, or smart phone for photographing this demo of making
sketchbooks.
We
will look at how many people would be interested in a spring workshop with
Kathryn (probably late March or April) at Twinrocker Paper to make these
sketchbooks.

Composition Program - Outstanding!
The WVWS January meeting was outstanding. Susan Doster presented a power point presentation about composition that was thorough, practical and very enjoyable. She followed the presentation with a critique of paintings that were brought by members and we were able to apply some of the knowledge from the presentation. The material was dense. I will post it here at a later date. But Marilyn Martin, our secretary took such good notes, that I'm including them here. The stop sign is a visual reminder to stop painting when it is done! Don't keep dabbling! Teachers are good to help us on this one.
