James Gurney

I don't remember if I've mentioned James Gurney before. He is both a realist painter and an illustrator/concept artist. If you have kids who love dinosaurs, you may have seen his book, Dinotopia.

Link to Gurney's blog: http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.ca/ Lots to explore here!

A recent post on Lines and Colors described Gurney's Fantasy in the Wild vid and provided a link to an earlier discussion and many pics of Gurney's Watercolor in the Wild (downloadable vid):

Definitely worth a look if you would like some tips on using watercolor "en plein air."

His book Color and Light is worth looking at as well: http://jamesgurney.com/site/213/color-and-light-a-guide-for-the-realist-painter

Ivan Sulima, Ukranian illustrator

As seen on lines and colors blog: I absolutely love his foxes (not least because we have a pair of foxes who live in our ravine)!

I couldn't get any of the images to copy. You'll have to explore via links.

Chris Dunn, illustrator

Lines and Colors featured Chris Dunn yesterday, in particular Dunn's series of paintings (watercolor and gouache) inspired by The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame. My girls loved this book!

Here's a lovely peaceful example:

Alice in Wonderland illustrations

The Art Room Plant is another of the blogs I like to check on every once in awhile. Hazel Terry, a Scottish artist, features lesser known and new artists, many of whom have a quite playful style. This month Terry has been featuring illustrations from the various Alice in Wonderland books (in among other posts), like the one above. On the March 22 post she has reproduced some of Lewis Carroll's original manuscript.

Alina Chau's Watercolors

Another find via Lines and Colors.

Alina Chau is an illustrator, painter, and animation artist who works in watercolor. Her work is filled with delightful images and wonderful textures with subjects from contemporary to fairy-tale narrratives. I could not pick a favorite.

For the Lines and Colors posts, start here: http://linesandcolors.com/2015/02/20/alina-chau-update/ In that post is a link to an older post as well.

She also has a blog called Ice-Cream Monster Toon Cafe: http://alinanimation.blogspot.com/
